Done!

Happy parents.

Now their son can go join the "real world" again and find a job in Seattle!

I couldn't have done it without the "other" Mrs. Tamayo either.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama draws 70,000+ people to an outdoor rally in Portland, OR (the site of a primary tomorrow).

Racism Sucks

Above: The Farmers for Obama headquarters in Vincennes, Ind., was vandalized on the eve of that state's May 6 primary. (By Ray Mccormick)

As Barack Obama closes out the the primary season as the presumptive Democratic nominee, new questions arise about the effect racism will have in the general election.

Here are two "must reads: about what may come and why it won't or will matter.

Obama Endorsement

I realize that celebrity endorsements don't count for much. If they did, Democrats would win every national election (sans Jessica Simpson speaking highly of G.W. Bush in 2004).

Here's a cool endorsement for Obama (that follows with this equally cool one from will.i.am):

Dear Friends,

I hope this finds you well.

A question, a reflection, and an endorsement.

Why is our country divided?
Why has this division been growing?

Can we not all agree that we are a country that supports its families, that protects its citizens and respects its neighbors?
A country that educates its children?
Are we not a country that can lead by example rather than by force?
Is ours a government of the people, by the people, for the people?

I would like to think so.
But I believe that corporate greed and its involvement in policy making, along with political cronyism have made it nearly impossible for the people to govern.
So we fight amongst ourselves over the spin of political slogans and half truths.
And so we are divided.

It is time for a change and that is why I support Barack Obama for President.

Respectfully,

Dave Matthews

What have I done?

Mrs. Tamayo (not my mom) comes homes tomorrow morning. Looking back over the past 4 days I can now honestly deem myself worthless. Let's take a look at what I've accomplished:

- I'm about 95% finished with my paper (damn those edits)
- The only meals I have eaten at home have been sandwiches and cereal
- I watched the new Ironman movie(awesome by the way)
- I contributed to our slowing economy by spending money at the following businesses (Tommy's Joint, Quetzal Cafe, PPQ, Irving Pizza, H20 Cafe, Reverie, the sandwich shop next to Reverie, Magnolia Brewery, Lincoln Tavern, Blockbuster, AMC Van Ness Movie Theater)
- Watched the following DVD's (The West Wing Season 2 Disc 1, The Heartbreak Kid w/ Ben Stiller..mediocre, Cracking the DaVinci Code...interesting, Charlie Wilson's War...I love Aaron Sorkin's writing)
- I rode the bus a lot
- I got the oil changed and tires rotated at Big o'
- As a result of the work done at Big O' i found out I needed to get the rear beark pads replaced
- As a result got the rear brake pads of the Sub replaced at Cole Garage (Gotta love Mike and Dirk!)

and that's about it!

Beer

I would like to consider myself a beer afficianado. Not in the mold of the frat boy "I eat beerios for breakfast mode", but rather someone who has lived and has family in several of the best beer locals in the nation, the greater Pacific Northwest (Seattle/Portland) and Northern California.

When your wife is out of town, you tend look up stupid stuff on the internet. Here are the top 10 craft beers according to Businessweek Magazine.

What to do?

Mrs. Tamayo (not my mom) is out of town for the next few days. I conjured up ideas of wild bachelor like parties at our apartment complete with kegs and strippers, but that obviously is not going to happen. Besides, I can't carry a keg up three flights of stairs and deep down I'm afraid of strippers.

So what did I do today:

- I got the brakes fixed on the car
- Edited my paper a bit
- Watched 4 episodes of the second season of The West Wing television show
- Eavesdropped on the founder of Craigslist at Reverie talk about how EBAY is suing them (that was the highlight of my day!)
- Bored out of my mind I find myself at 10pm drinking a Maker's at the Lincoln Tavern taking advantage of their drink specials and free WIFI

I'm threatening to tomorrow go on a solo urban hike through the city, work on my paper at a coffee shop I've never been to before, catch a matinee of the new superhero movie Ironman, and cut my toenails.

For the 5 people who read this, of the links that I made in this post, 3 of them represent some of my favorite things in the world. If you can name them, I'll buy you a Blue Moon! Post a comment!
